Hi, we're
Kay and Rachel!
We’re drama teachers and the founders of Shoes on Theatre, a children’s drama company born in Whitchurch, Hampshire in 2017.

We met studying Drama at the University of Winchester and bonded over our shared love of theatre and teaching. After years of working with youth theatre groups, teaching abroad, and gaining hands-on experience, we decided to bring our passion to life.

Shoes on Theatre began with a small group and a big idea: to create a supportive space where children can grow in confidence, creativity, and performance. Today, we’re proud to inspire young performers every week – and we’re just getting started.

We each hold the following up to date certificates and qualifications:

BA Honours Degree in Drama

I have always been drama-mad. I can remember putting on plays to an audience of teddies when I was 6 years old, they thought it was superb!
I graduated from University with a BA Honours Degree in Drama in 2015. Since then I have taught drama to young people in England and China.
I've never wanted to do anything else with my life and I love seeing that same passion reflected in the young people I teach.
Kay

My mum took me to the theatre for the first time when I was 7, and I haven't stopped talking about it since.
I used to sit on the swing in my parents garden performing my heart out as though I was the only one who could hear (I wasn't)!
I graduated from the University of Winchester with a BA Hons degree in Drama a few years ago and went on to teach both in the UK and China. Now that I'm no longer a child, I love working with children, and getting to teach the thing I'm most passionate about!

What's your favourite drama game?
Kay: The Freeze Frame Game - An an ensemble, create a picture and have someone guess the location. Great for all ages!
Rachel: Bus Character Game - Enter the bus as a stock character, everyone on the bus takes on your characterisation. It gets very hilarious and chaotic!

What's the best thing about your job?
Kay: Getting to share my love of drama with young people - there is nothing like doing what you love to do everyday!
Rachel: Having an excuse to spend everyday being a big kid and super dramatic! Also seeing the impact our drama classes have on so many young people.

What's the best stage production you've seen?
Kay: Deaf West's production of Spring Awakening on Broadway. It moved me unlike any show I've ever seen.
Rachel: This changes often, but probably Til the Stars Come Down. The acting, direction and production were mind-blowing.

What's your favourite word, colour, thing to do on a rainy Sunday?
Kay: Flabbergasted, pink and watching a Proshot of a musical!
Rachel: Cosy, green and playing board games whilst eating M&S cookies.

Where's your happy place?
Kay: In the water or in a theatre - imagine a pool in a theatre!
Rachel: On a beach or in a theatre.
Bucket list: see a show at The Minack Theatre in Cornwall.

On a scale of 1-10, how dramatic are you?
Kay: I'd say a 7, until I'm teaching, then I'd go a 9!
Rachel: A solid 8.
